This new decal
sheet from Wolfpak
Decals includes markings
for 8 different aircraft including a P-3C AIP, two EP-3E Aries II, C-119L,
F-16C+, Su-15TM, EA-7Land an A-10A.
The first
aircraft is a P-3C AIP Orion BuNo:162318 with VP-46 Grey Knights at Widbey
Island NAS in 2006. The
paint scheme for this aircraft is overall Gloss Gull Gray with big artwork on
the tail of an armored hand thrusting the Trident. The
only available kit in this scale is the P-3 kit from Hasegawa.
The instructions go into great detail about the colors used for detail painting
(cockpit, wheels wells etc) and the various weapons bay options as well as what
is required to update the P-3 Hasegawa kit.
The
second aircraft
is a EP-3E
Aries II or Electronic Intelligence (ELINT Orion) #519 is the reconnaissance
variant of the P-3 series. The
paint scheme for this aircraft is overall Gloss Gull Gray and Insignia White
with the topside and underside fuselage
Electronic pods
in Dark Gull Grey. The artwork on the tail is a black silhouetted item
over a red triangle. The
only available kit in this scale is the EP-3E kit from Hasegawa.
The instructions go into great detail about the colors used for detail painting
(wheels wells and gear doors etc). Little is known about the
special Electronic pods carried by this aircraft.
The third aircraft
is a EP-3E
Aries II or Electronic Intelligence (ELINT Orion) #157318 is the reconnaissance
variant of the P-3 series. The
paint scheme for this aircraft is overall Gloss Gull Gray and Insignia White
with the topside and underside fuselage Electronic
pods
in Dark Gull Grey. The artwork on the tail is a black bat. The
only available kit in this scale is the EP-3E kit from Hasegawa.
The instructions go into great detail about the colors used for detail painting
(wheels wells and gear doors etc). Little is known about the
special Electronic pods carried by this aircraft.
The fourth
aircraft is a C-119L Serial # 53-8087 with Special Operations Squadron of the
West Virginia Air National Guard out of Kanawa County Airport in 1971.
Special Operations Missions flown by these aircraft in this wing during and
after the Korean War were secretive and included infiltration and exfiltration
and resupply of agents in denied territory. The
paint scheme for this aircraft is Matte Black FS 37038 overall. The
only available kit in this scale is the EP-3E kit from Hasegawa.
The instructions go into great detail about the colors used for detail painting
(interior colors, seat colors, wheels wells and engine cowling interior etc).
The
fifth
aircraft
is a F-16C+
Serial # 86-0263 is an aircraft that had a night time collision with another
F-16 and lost 3 feet of the end of it's right wing but still managed to land
safely while the other F-16 was too badly damaged and the pilot was forced to
eject to safety. This aircraft was assigned to the 170th Squadron, 183rd
Fighter Wing of the Illinois Air National Guard at Capital Airport in
Springfield, Illinois. The Illinois Air National Guard F-16's have the
General Electric F110-GE-100 engines with the big mouth intake. The
paint scheme for this aircraft is the standard F-16 camo with a
blue and yellow Illinois
stripe across the top of the tail.

The sixth
aircraft is a Su-15TM that is the actual aircraft "Red 17" that shot
down Korean Airlines flight 007 on Sept. 1, 1983 with the resulting death of 269
people. This
aircraft was a natural metal finish over all with a green nose and a small green
area at the top of the tail. The
instructions include info to assist the modeler on the correct weapons load for
the KAL 007 mission as well as info about the colors used for detail painting (interior
colors, seat colors, wheels wells and ejection handles etc).
Available kits are the Su-15 from PM Models and Trumpeter.
The
seventh
aircraft
is a EA-7L
BuNo:156743 with VAQ-34 at Point Mugu Naval Air Station in the 1980's.
The
paint scheme for this aircraft is overall Light Ghost Gray.
Markings include Red star aggressor markings.
The
instructions have info to assist the modeler on the correct weapons load
plus info about the colors used for detail painting (interior colors,
wheels wells and ejection handles etc).
The only available kit for the EA-7L
is from Hobbyboss.
The eighth aircraft is a
A-10A Serial No 80-0254 with 357 Fighter Squadron, 355 Fighter Wing at Davis-Monthan
AFB, Tucson, Arizona. This aircraft is
is painted in the Compass Ghost scheme with a choice of hi viz and lo viz
markings. The
instructions include weapons loadouts for each stationas well as info about the
colors used for detail painting (interior colors, wheels wells and ejection
handles etc). The available kits are from Academy, Hasegawa,
Italeri and Revell of Germany.
The 7 pages of instructions are
clear and include multiple views of each aircraft. I have not included
scans of some of the instruction sheets as they only included text but the text
is full of helpful detail for scale modellers. The decals are beautifully
printed on 1 decal sheet.
I do enjoy seeing the variety of
aircraft Wolfpak
Decals packs
into their decal sheets and this decal sheet includes aircraft that will appeal
to most aircraft modellers.
