Ugly or beautiful......some
will say effective....The same goes for the Airfix kit, you get a lightning that
looks like that, with a good fit, nice detail and honest instructions (for the
nose weight)
The kit was built
out of the box, only scratch made panels in the cockpit were added. This
is my method for bare metal finish," keep energy for getting a mirror like
finish outside"
After filling and
sanding, a compound was used to polish the surface and a gloss black primer was
air brushed. Then I masked the anti glare panel in front of the
cockpit and then airbrushed alclad 2 in several layers. It was my first
time with this and I'm pleased that I can mask over it without any preoccupation
for what is under. This is necessary especially on the wings, in which I
used highly diluted gun metal to shadow down that zone between the walking
lines. The same way I did on panels, but using blue, grey and black. The
small details were painted with humbrol metal cote. Then I washed up with
oleos (oil paint) on the fuselage and diluted silver over the
black. I used the kit decals and micro sol & set even the alclad guys
don't recommend it, I have no problems..

The final result is
a big, shiny monster, definitely beautiful to me, especially on a sunny winter
day in Buenos Aires...
