As with all new
Tamiya kits their A1-H Skyraider is well engineered and the parts fit together
with seamless precision. I therefore felt the need to attack them with a
sharp instrument and duly folded the wings using the Airwaves etched brass
wingfold accessory set. That aside the kit was assembled out of the box,
spray primed with white car primer (which also formed the white undersurface
paint finish) and Humbrol satin enamel brush painted over the upper surfaces.

After sealing the
paint finish with a couple of coats of Johnsons Clear acrylic varnish, I used
the Tamiya decals to represent the MiG 17 Killer of VA 176
"Thunderbolts" aboard USS Intrepid in 1966. A dark brown enamel wash
was used to weather around the exhausts and accent underwing panels etc.
