Many have sung their praise to Hasegawa's Apache series. Their enthusiasm sparked my curiosity towards the enhancement potential for these kits. I wonder what would result by combining Verlinden's Monogram Update along with bits 'n pieces from the old scrap box?
Photo 3: Making a TE700-GE-701 engine was a personal test. My goal is to create a scratch built section that blends-in smoothly with the other exposed compartments. Lacking pervious experience, the engine core began with a Russian rocket pod, which was reshaped, and repeatedly test fitted. After acquiring a snug fit, small item from various sources were added to complete the end product. Photo 4: Metal tubing and fine wire were used throughout this bird. These include replacing all grab rails, probes, springs, and wiring. Photo 5: The external tank was modified from Hasegawa's F18 kit. The Royal Netherlands Air Force (KLu) borrowed a dozen AH-64As from the machine's country of origin between 1996 and 2001. This initial batch was utilized as familiarization platforms prior to delivery of their current inventory of 30 NAH-64D. The "D" models reside with 301 and 302 Squadrons and are part of the Dutch contribution to NATO's Rapid Reaction Force. Blow Photo: This is a very simple detail sets to implement with all necessary surgery falling on existing panel lines. Extra attention is given to sanding since the components were originally intended for a proportionally larger model. Thinning the fuselage from the inside provides additional room to accommodate those slightly oversized resin parts.
