1/72 Pavla Robinson R22 Beta II

A Robinson R22 of the Dominican Republic Air Force, looking snappy in a sharp demarcation four color camo.  I think they might be on a ski trip.  This is definitely an advanced kit, supplied with resin and photo etch parts and four decal choices.  I decided to do the more challenging air force version, using Model Master paints.

I wanted to have both sets of rotor blades free to turn, requiring some scratch building, using brass rod and tubing.  Brass rod was also used to make replacement skids and supports.  All of the photo etch parts were flat, which included the skid supports and I wasn't sure they would be strong enough.  The brass rod also looks more in scale.  CA glue held every thing together nicely.  I also made the AC light, tail skid (E string) and the little red and white rod.  I spun a piece of plastic rod with my Dremel and used a red marker to make the bands, then trimmed it to fit.  The bands on the tail rotor are a spares contribution, left over from a Leading Edge set.

So, of the 34 1/72 scale helicopters I've built, this is the smallest and I think I'll open that Condor box next.
