Paint:
I first paint the blue nose, using
Testors paints. It's a mix of bright blue and Insignia blue....I don't know what really
is the shade of blue for the nose, but this mix looks pretty good! I also
painted the black bands on fuselage/wings.
After masking those painted
areas, I applied a coat of Bare Metal using a Tamiya Spray, then I apply
different coats of Testors Metalizers, beginning with the dark shade and finishing
with aluminium. I use a motortool to polished the whole kit.
Weathering:
As usual I used the smoke, but
it's a long job! When the smoke is dry, I polished the whole model one
more time, so there is no more flaws in the paint surface (smoke residues).
Decals:
I choose the new sheet from Eagle
Strike, 3 aircraft with the "Blue Nose" of Bodney....making PETIE
3rd...usually we could see PETIE 2nd everywhere....never the 3rd! Those
decals come pretty well and it's a great improvement when looking at the kit
decals.
Conclusions:
Well, there are strange things
about this Trumpeter kit, as those sink marks...always on the place you could see....and pretty
difficult to hide. On the clear parts, the links with
the plastic tree are pretty misplaced on the front canopy...you'll have to
take lots of care when cutting this part.
It sure looks great when finished,
and we couldn't ask for the perfect kit....we didn't need a box that
we just shake with the glue and paint inside no?
But...for that price...I think
that there are enough flying Mustang through the world to produce an accurate kit?
So, if I have to say something for
the end....build it, it's a great bird when finished!
